Pleural Biopsy in Empyema Thoracis Patients: is it a useful Daignostic Tool?

Abstract
To look for tuberculosis as a cause of empyema as diagnosed by histopathology of pleural biopsy. Twenty five consecutive admissions of empyema thoracic in Pulmonology Department of PGMI LRH, Peshawar from January 2000 to June 2000 were included in the study. Closed pelural biopsy, under local anaesthesia was taken with Abram's pleural biopsy needle. Pleural biopsy serves as an imporatnt diagnostic tool in the management of empyema thoracis specially when pelural pus turns out sterile on cutlure and sensitivity.
